“Hello,

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you making these journals. For many years I searched for these journals, and I was thrilled to find your company a couple years ago. Here’s a quick story:

I first discovered a journal company that I adored in Venice, Italy, in 1997, when I was 20 years old. At the time, I had no money, but what I did have I spent on three journals: one for my father, one for my girlfriend (now wife), and one for me. I saved the journal for years, waiting until I had something very special to write. In 2003, my wife became pregnant with our first child. I decided to use the journal as volume 1 of her life. I started writing in it about two months before she was born, took it to the hospital, got her footprints, and have been writing in it ever since with my thoughts. When she’s grown, I’m excited to turn over my recollection of her life to her.

In 2005, my wife became pregnant with our second child, so I began earnestly to look for a new journal, especially one that compared to the one I had found eight years prior in Venice. I had no luck. All the journals I found were not quite up to the quality that I expected. With about three months until the baby was due, I was seriously considering flying to Venice for a day, finding the store, and buying the journal. I’m not a wealthy man, though, so this option was not ideal, although it would’ve been fun!

Around that time I found Rustico Leather, and your company was exactly what I had been looking for. I ordered a book for my second child, a son, and the book met all of my hopes. In fact, when I need a journal, I turn to your company exclusively. Since then, I have ordered two more books: one for my wife for our 4th anniversary (I filled the journal with my thoughts of our marriage in one week – about 10 pages per day, give or take), and one for our third baby.

I just wanted you to know that your company has made a difference in my life, and I appreciate it. The journals that I own for my kids are my most prized possessions and are my standard answer to the question: “If there’s a fire and you can only take one item with you…”

From Humble Beginnings

Officially founded in 2001, our journey as a company began long before then when we started crafting leather journals for friends and family in 1998. The admiration and applause we received was astonishing. Within a short time, local ski resorts and boutiques also began knocking on our door with significant interest. Recognizing there was high demand for superior-quality handmade leather products, Rustico was officially founded on the strength of our top-grain cowhide and proprietary creation processes. Since then, Rustico has become a respected maker of handmade and custom leather products throughout the world.

Made-to-Order Quality Products

The key to artisan-based manufacturing begins with authentic materials. Our leathers are thicker weight top-grain cowhide, making each product a unique piece that showcases the leather’s aged and weathered patina. Random, beautiful, and natural blemishes add texture and variety to each of our products.

Our cotton-rag blended paper inspires writers and artists with hand-torn deckled edges and a slight texture, creating a satisfying hand-made feel. We use paper created from recycled post-consumer waste, adding texture, body, and style to our leather products. The papers we use make an excellent companion for any type of writing and drawing instrument.
